It could also be a podiatrist or a chiropodist. The specialty they work in is called podiatry and deals with the study, diagnosis and treatment of injuries or disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg.
Foot Injury: Why Did I Get a Foot Injury? A foot injury in a lot of cases is caused by overuse. In many other cases, a foot injury is a result from an underlying problem such as flat feet or plantar fasciitis. In these cases, overpronation or oversupination often occur, weakening the muscles in your foot and making you prone to injury. It can also be caused by straight trauma.
Foot Injury: What Can I Do To Prevent It? To prevent a foot injury from returning, your doctor may prescribe foot orthotics to put in your shoes. Orthotics even the weight upon impact throughout your feet and prevent overpronation or oversupination.
Choosing the right footwear is also an important preventative measure. Choose shoes that are right for your foot type and that are not tight anywhere on your foot.
Also warm up before physical activity. This may take away some stiffness in the feet and allowing more flexibility. This can help decrease your chance of sustaining a foot injury.
